Good Bike. Terrible First Impressions

Yes. As many people know, it's a fine exercise machine. Had I known it would arrive packed in white, crumbling styrofoam, I might have had hit the pause button when ordering. You know the stuff. Breaks apart creating innumerable little balls of clinging foam. An environmental nightmare that, once fr...eed, travels easily and is almost impossible to wrangle. Because of a hole in the box the trail started at the UPS truck, across the front yard, on the porch and into the house. Unpacking the bike made it worse of course. The pieces of foam clung to the bike, found its way onto the bike's fan, clung onto me and the curious passing Corgi. A piece of it was even lodged in the power port for the display requiring removal with tweezers. Because styrofoam is not recyclable-at least where we live-disposal demanded two huge contractor trash bags to prevent the foam from continuing to contaminate the neighborhood. Granted, the bike suffered no apparent shipping damage. Styrofoam is cheap. But the real time and environmental costs of using this stuff are enormous . I spent more time cleaning up after it than I did assembling the bike. Schwinn can do better. On the quality side, the threads on one of the stabilizer bars were cut poorly and would not accept the M8x20 button cap bolts. I recut the threads with an M8 tap from my workshop. Without this tool at hand the assembly would have been paralyzed for want of a more expensive and time consuming remedy. Other than that, it's been fine.
